We all have these photos … throwback photos!
It’s described as ‘nostalgia-inducing pictures … from a different era of your life”.
Every Thursday we will throw a photo of ‘way back when’ on our blog. Why on a Thursday? Because it’s just a day away from the weekend … and we love weekends!
You are welcome to join in or just enjoy the photo (#TB Thursday).
Rugby World Cup 1995:
The year 1995 will be remembered by South Africans for a very good reason … this was the year that the national rugby team of South Africa, The Springboks, won their first Rugby World Cup (that was also hosted in South Africa). It was described as an iconic moment in the history of South African sport.
Our first road trip together:
But it will also be remembered by Berto and me as the year that we took our first road trip together (one of many that would follow in the next 27 years). We travelled from Alexander Bay to Kimberley and then ended our trip in Cape Town.
Kimberley is the capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The city has considerable historical significance due to its diamond mining past and the siege during the Second Anglo-Boer war. You will also find the largest man-made excavation in the world here.

We visited the Kimberley Mine Museum in April 1995 – one of the best open-air museums in the world and situated right next to the world-renowned Big Hole.
