We all have these photos … throwback photos!

It’s described as ‘nostalgia-inducing pictures … from a different era of your life”.

Every Thursday we will throw a few photos of ‘way back when’ on our blog. Why on a Thursday? Because it’s just a day away from the weekend … and we love weekends!

You are welcome to join in or just enjoy the photos (#TB Thursday).

“A day in and around Cape Town, is always a good day”. Wet and Dusty Roads

Maybe someone else has said it before, but we want to officially declare that you will never tire of sightseeing in Cape Town. On a random Saturday in December 2016 we decided to explore more of the Cape Peninsula and we had an amazing time.

Sea Point & Bantry Bay:

We started our morning very early in Sea Point with a long walk along the sea. It is a very popular area for walkers, joggers and cyclists. Besides having the sea in your sight, you also have a view of the lovely Lion’s Head.

When we reached Bantry Bay, we decided to turn around as there were still quite a few places we wanted to visit. Bantry Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town and also known as the most wind-free area of the city.

Bloubergstrand:

Just a short drive from Sea Point and Bantry Bay, lies the coastal suburb of Bloubergstrand. The name Bloubergstrand literally means ‘blue mountain beach’ in Afrikaans and is derived from Blaauwberg, a nearby hill. Beach goers enjoyed the day in the sun. Here we bought ice cream and joined them with another walk on the fine white sand.

Bloubergstrand is also a popular place from where one has a wonderful view of the magnificent Table Mountain. We have an archive full of pictures of Table Mountain that we took from this beach. If you want to see this famous mountain in its full glory, the beach at Bloubergstrand is the place to be.

Big Bay:

After all this walking we drove to Big Bay to enjoy lunch. Big Bay is one of two beaches in Bloubergstrand. There are many restaurants here and we found one with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Victoria and Alfred Waterfront:

After lunch we walked back to the beach (and bought another ice cream). After admiring the view and watching some surfers in the water, it was time to head home. Only … we didn’t, because on the way back home was the famous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

We’ve written about the V&A Waterfront before on one of our TB Thursday posts (read here) and it’s always a great place to spend time. We decided to do some grocery shopping here and walked around afterwards.

It was several hours later that we realised the sun was setting when we could see the last rays of the day in the clouds outside. We walked to one of our favourite restaurants in the V&A Waterfront, Ferrymans, and shared a pizza to round off a lovely day of exploring the Cape Peninsula.

If you might have been wondering about the ice-cream, here is proof that we enjoyed two ice-creams each in one day!

Happiness is … eating ice-cream on a hot day (twice)
