We all have these photos … throwback photos!

It’s described as ‘nostalgia-inducing pictures … from a different era of your life”.

Every Thursday we will throw a few photos of ‘way back when’ on our blog. Why on a Thursday? Because it’s just a day away from the weekend … and we love weekends!

You are welcome to join in or just enjoy the photos (#TB Thursday).

1967, 1968 & 1996 – Weddings

“A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short.” André Maurois

While at our home in Langebaan, we had the chance to look through our photo albums tucked away in boxes … the perfect time to look for some throwback photos.

I love weddings – whether it’s our own or someone else’s (I can be a real romantic sometimes). A few months ago, we shared one of our own wedding photos in a Throwback post, but today we want to honour our parents on their wedding days and then close with our own wedding day.

Corna’s Dad & Mum – 1967:

Corna’s parents, Gys and Corrie van Taak, were married on 15 July 1967 in Clanwilliam in the Western Cape Province. Her father grew up in Clanwilliam and her mother in Lamberts Bay – 64km (39 miles) apart.

Confirmation in the reformed churches is an important milestone in any young person’s life. Both Corna and her brother’s confirmation took place at the age of 17 in the same church where their parents were married 19 years ago.

Berto’s Dad & Mum – 1968:

Berto’s parents, Dawid and Elisa (Egla) Wiese, were married on 5 October 1968 in a small church in Grootmist, near Kleinzee in the Northern Cape Province. Berto’s parents are from Namaqualand and both his grandparents had farms in Namaqualand near Grootmist.

Berto was baptised as a baby in 1970 in the same church where his parents got married.

Berto & Corna – 1996:

Finally, 29 and 28 years after our parents got married, we had our special wedding day on 4 May 1996. We met in Alexander Bay and got married there too. Our regular readers may remember that we have mentioned before that Alexander Bay is a very small diamond mining town in the extreme northwest of South Africa on the border of Namibia.

Our wedding day – 1996

Both our parents set very good examples for us and we recently celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. We hope and pray for many more blessed years together.

The happiest day in my life
