Throwback Thursday #26

Every Thursday we will throw a few photos of ‘way back when’ on our blog. Why on a Thursday? Because it’s just a day away from the weekend … and we love weekends!

September 2018 – Cederberg Mountains (Western Cape Province, South Africa)

In last week’s TB Thursday post, we introduced you to the Cederberg Mountains. Fast forward now 11 years later and we are back in these spectacular mountains.

This time friends invited us to visit friends of theirs on a farm in the Cederberg Mountains. As it was spring, we had lovely weather. We spent our days at the farm dam, where some enjoyed a quick swim.

We also took long walks to the river where we saw many birds and just enjoyed the tranquility.

Something else that is always great to watch are the sunsets. To see how the sun colours the mountains in deep shades of orange remains a beautiful view.

On our last night, while sitting outside, we saw a donkey cart approaching. It was a small family on their way back home and they waved happily as they passed us.

Well rested after a lovely weekend, we left the farm a little reluctantly. It was wonderful to experience the genuine hospitality of the people here. Fortunately, we were still able to experience the beautiful surroundings on our way home.

After reaching another mountain stream, we decided to stop for a while. Here we sat with our feet in the water, while enjoying lunch. There are few things better than that.

    1. Jy’s reg … ek weet nie of mens ooit gewoond kan raak deur met soveel mooi omring te wees nie. Natuurlik is die plaas lewe harde werk, maar die warmte en opregtheid van hierdie mense is bewonderingswaardig.

    1. Ek is bly jy hou daarvan 🌸. Ek geniet dit net so baie om soms bietjie “rusbank reise” te doen wanneer ek van plekke lees waar ek nog nooit was nie. Dit voel later ek ken hierdie plekke (maar was nog nooit self daar nie)!

    1. Thank you Tricia. I have so many beautiful memories of the Cederberg Mountains. My grandparents lived here, my parents got married here and both my brother and I went to high school here. There is a small piece of my heart between these mountains ❤️.

    1. I can’t remember … but I’m sure you visited the Cederberg Mountains? Truly a wonderful place to visit – now I wish we went there more when we lived in Langebaan. But hopefully that opportunity will present itself again.

  12. This sounds like a great weekend trip. I would love to eat lunch while dangling my feet in a stream. Maybe Mike and I can find a place to do that on our next road trip. By the way, I thought the donkey cart was adorable. Have a wonderful weekend ahead.

    1. We also liked the donkey cart (and its friendly family). It is very common to see them on the farm roads. Yes, sometimes it’s the simple things – like sitting with your feet in a river stream – that provide great pleasure, isn’t it?

    1. The roads in the Cederberg Mountains are so picturesque. One should not be in a hurry when travelling there … of course, while taking many of those wonderful breaks along the streams.

  16. It must have been nice to return to the Cederberg Mountains, especially given how scenic the area is and that you had fabulous weather. Looks like the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. Your pictures are spectacular.

    1. Thanks Linda. Yes, as you can probably see, we love the Cederberg Mountains 🙂. And we were lucky with the weather – it’s normally very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer … so, spring and autumn are the perfect seasons to visit (and to see lovely sunsets).
