We all have these photos … throwback photos!
It’s described as ‘nostalgia-inducing pictures … from a different era of your life”.
Every Thursday we will throw a few photos of ‘way back when’ on our blog. Why on a Thursday? Because it’s just a day away from the weekend … and we love weekends!
You are welcome to join in or just enjoy the photos (#TB Thursday).
June 2007 – Cederberg Mountains (Western Cape Province, South Africa)
On a long weekend during the winter we decided to get our friends together for a getaway in the beautiful Cederberg Mountains. The men decided to ride their motorbikes, while we (wives and children) all got into one vehicle … the recipe for a perfect weekend!
Cederberg Mountains:
The Cederberg lies 250km (155 miles) north of Cape Town. It is a rugged, mountainous terrain of dramatic beauty.

We drove the scenic road, which means dirt and back roads. Our accommodation was deep in the mountains and since it was winter and cold, we spent lazy days by the fireplace. We played board games, walked along the river and just relaxed.
On the day we drove back home, it was cloudy and for the last hour or so it rained – perhaps not ideal for the motorbike riders. But we had lovely views on our way, here are some photos from this scenic drive.

A very popular campsite in the Cederberg Mountain is Algeria. It’s a peaceful and grassy area with crystal clear pools (which are great to cool off in during the hot summer months). But this time we just drove past the lovely campsite.

No, it’s not Algeria the country in North Africa, but rather a lovely campsite
We drove over mountain passes with beautiful views deep into the valleys. The Cederberg has a series of hiking trails that vary in intensity, but you can be sure to always see fascinating rock formations.

Closer to Cape Town it started to rain and we had no chance to stop again. But I did manage to snap a quick photo of a lovely rainbow as we drove. There was also the beautiful view of a farm dam with misty clouds over the mountains in the distance.

It was a lovely relaxing weekend with our friends … everything is so much better when you are in good company and in nature!
It’s so easy to see and read your happy memories of this weekend. Good for the soul, isn’t it? Mel

Earlier in the week, while looking through the photos, we remembered this weekend’s laughing and just enjoying being surrounded by nature and good friends. Good for the soul indeed … then and now!

My husband really liked his motorcycle – we used to ride it a lot on the back roads.

Motor bikes are very popular here. Grant had one in South Africa and often talks about it. I was never keen, but I do understand the appeal. We were saying yesterday that we should have a little Vespa, then we could putt putt along and stop to take photos instead of rushing past.!
What a lovely location for a break. Even the colour of the soil is dramatic!

Yes, it is also popular here with us. We usually see them riding in large groups on a weekend morning – in biker language this is apparently called a “breakfast run”. Oh yeah, I’d love a Vespa too – leisurely riding is more my idea of fun. The colours in the Cederberg are incredibly beautiful – you have to see it at sunset, it’s really glorious.

Thank you so much Tricia. The Cederberg is a lovely area – if the mountains call us, then this is our number one destination. It is very popular with hikers, rock climbers, 4×4 drivers (and bikers 😉) … although you can also drive a regular 2×4 car here. In other words, a destination for anyone looking for tranquility in nature.

Cederberg looks like another perfect weekend getaway. The scenery is beautiful, and it looks like you had the entire place to yourselves. That’s our kind of place!

Yes, during the winter the roads are not really busy in the Cederberg – it’s actually the perfect time to visit this area, because in summer it can get very hot here. It’s definitely one of our favourite places to go in search of peace and quiet.

These are such beautiful throwback photos, Corna, especially the ones taken at the viewpoints 🙂 I love how unspoiled and wonderfully rugged the mountain range is. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

The Cederberg is a lovely area. And experiencing it with friends was special. Thanks Marion, hope you have a nice weekend … for a change there is rain forecast here for the whole weekend, so I guess we’re slowly moving into winter now.

Ja, die Sederberge is ‘n besondere mooi plek! En jy’s reg, dis so rustig en ongerep (soos baie plekke ook teen die Weskus). Soveel mooi plekke in ons land – waarvan ek nog heeltemal te min gesien het 😉.
