Nitida Wine Farm & Tables at Nitida

After our recent hiking trips in the Cederberg Mountains, we thought it was time to head back to “civilization” … a weekend getaway to Cape Town sounded like the perfect call!

A visit to our friends were long overdue – they all live in the suburbs of Cape Town – and a braai (barbeque) was the perfect opportunity to catch up with everyone.

On our way, there are so many places where one can stop to enjoy what the city has on offer … like a wine tasting at one of the MANY wine farms. Nitida Wine Farm was one of these places and we relaxed here for a couple of hours.

Wine tasting at Nitida Wine Farm

Nitida is situated in the heart of the Durbanville Wine Valley. In 1995, they won their first double-gold Sauvignon Blanc and are now recognised as a benchmark Semillon producer.

There are currently 3 options for wine tasting; namely Classical, Artisanal and Sauvignon Sensory tasting. My mom joined us for the wine tasting and both she and Berto chosen the Classical Tasting, while I tried the Artisanal Tasting. We each had the opportunity to taste 4 different wines.

Nitida Wine Farm is known for their Sauvignon Blanc wines and we all enjoyed the tasting of this wine. But to our surprise, their red blends were remarkable. Both their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines were excellent and we enjoyed these glasses particularly.

The tasting room is open 7 days a week and it’s perhaps a good idea to book for tastings on weekends, since the tasting room is not that big … which ensures for an intimate and authentic tasting experience.

We enjoyed our time tasting some of Nitida’s best wines. Of course, as you might know us by now 😉, we have not walked out empty handed … we bought a few bottles to later enjoy back home.

Restaurants:

The absolute bonus at this wine farm, is the availability of not one, but two restaurants! At Cassia Restaurant you will be wined and dined for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is probably the more formal one of the two restaurants. Tables at Nitida is situated between the vineyards and here you will find a more café quality ambience, offering breakfast, lunch and picnic options.

Tables at Nitida:

After all the wine tasting, we were ready to just sit and relax at an informal restaurant to enjoy their quality food and lovely setting. Therefore, Tables at Nitida was the perfect place to enjoy lunch!

We were warmly welcomed by the staff and their service was prompt and friendly (even with a big group arriving shortly after us). We each opted for a different dish and was very happy with our choices – it was fresh and delicious!
