Get to know East London better (11)
November 2024
We’ve mentioned briefly about our visits to Lavender Blue Market before (read here and here), but we think it needs a little more recognition. It really is one of those places where not only the food is delicious, but while you’re there you’re also surrounded by lovely scenery that makes it easy to forget about work and deadlines for a few hours.

You can’t miss the sign of Lavender Blue Market
We go there often – especially for a late breakfast on a Saturday. During winter there are enough tables inside where you can stay out of the cold, but in summer there is nothing better than sitting outside under the trees or sun umbrellas and next to the dam while enjoying their delicious food.

On our recent visit, it was late morning and the rush of visitors had probably already passed. There were plenty of open tables inside, but we were hoping to get a table outside. And we were lucky to find one next to the dam.

Lavender Blue Market is quite popular – during the week there are always people having their office meetings over a cup of coffee and on weekends it’s time for families and friends to relax here.
Michelle’s Garden Nursery is also a favourite place on their premises that we love to drop by. Beautiful plants, flowers and herbs are for sale here.

Lavender – an appropriate plant for Lavender Blue Market
Lavender Blue Market is very famous for their Poke bowls, pizzas and tasty burgers. But it’s their all-day breakfast that we love and their coffee is great (coming from me who is a tea drinker, that’s a huge compliment). However, we always make sure to order their freshly squeezed juices too – the Lavender Juice with apple, carrot and pineapple is our favourite. Oh, and during summer nothing beats their fresh Watermelon Shake.

Coffee and juice
Their Mosbolletjie Breakfast is by far our all-time favourite. One of us will always order that and their muffins are huge – rest assured, you won’t leave Lavender Blue Market hungry.

Summer at Lavender Blue Market
There is a safe play area for the kids and a green lawn where they can run around to their heart’s content.

After enjoying our meals, we always walk over to The Pantry, Lavender Blue Market’s deli with shelves full of all kinds of goodies. On the way there, I always peek at their cake display (and promise myself that next time I’ll skip breakfast and just eat pudding).

Fresh eggs, fruit and vegetables

Freshly baked bread

South African wine and Gin
And I can’t help but take a quick stroll through their gift shop as well. I always find a unique gift here (whether it’s for a friend or myself). You can even buy something special for your four-legged friend here if you wish.

Clothes and jewellery

There is also an upstairs area in Lavender Blue Market where you can sit – so, you can see, there is plenty of space for everyone to come and have a good time here.

On the premises of Lavender Blue Market there are also a few other businesses that are worth a visit. At Funky Monkey you will be able to buy delicious ice cream. If you like crafts, you can paint your own ceramic pieces at Clay @ Lavender or make your own jewellery at Stoep Designs. There is also an art studio and decor shop. Oh yes, and if you’re in need of accommodation, look no further than Lavender B&B. Can you now understand why Lavender Blue Market is such a favourite spot for locals and tourists alike?

We are very happy that our house is just around the corner from Lavender Blue Market. There are few things as great as popping in here, whether it’s summer or winter.

That’s what’s so great about Lavender Blue Market – almost everything is under one roof. When I drop in for a visit, it almost feels like I’ve been on a short holiday! Now who wouldn’t love a holiday like that 😉.

It is definitely a beautiful place. We had been to our daughter’s place in Germany in June and saw lavenders for the first time. They are so fragrant. But how do they make juice from them? L

Lavender is a lovely plant (also a big magnet for bees who love the little flowers). I don’t think the lavender is made into juice – the lavender juice I referred to is made from apple, carrot and pineapple. The lavender juice may just be Lavender Blue Market’s signature juice (without the lavender 😉) … if that makes sense.

It does 😊 . Thank you. Here we have some flowers, the petals are used to make rasam, a form of soup. The red hibiscus flower, not the hybrid one, is used . It has medicinal properties.

How lucky are you to have this special spot just around the corner? I’m afraid it would be too much temptation for me! I would have to walk there and back. 🙂

We always joke and say we live in a 7 minute radius of everything 😊. Work, beach, shop, restaurants and church – all of these are only a 7 minute drive from our house. So it’s not that far-fetched to want to walk to Lavender Blue Market … but in hot and humid weather it will be a challenge!

It sounds like you are smart cookies and have picked the perfect spot to live.

Sounds like an ideal location, Corna. The produce all looks very fresh and inviting, and I’ve half a mind to try one of those meringue topped cakes.

It’s a lovely place Jo. I’m not always sure it’s such a good thing that Lavender Blue Market is so close to our house, because it’s so easy to pop in quickly (even if just for a coffee) … but I always walk out there with a bag in my hand 😊. Oh, those meringue topped cakes looked delicious (with a little bit of passion fruit it seems – so it’s healthy, isn’t it)?

What a fabulous place. I would definitely be popping in often if I lived that close. Nothing like freshly made fruit juice. And the occasional naughty cake 🍰

It’s very convenient that Lavender Blue Market is so close to our home … and when we drive somewhere, we make sure it’s always on our way! Freshly squeezed juice and a small piece of cake – I think that sounds like a good balance!

What a fantastic place, how lucky to have it so close to your home! I’d be very happy at one of those outside tables with a good cup of coffee and one of those huge muffins 😀

I only drink tea when I’m at home, but when we visit Lavender Blue Market, I can’t resist their coffee … and also many other delicious things on their menu 😊. It’s a great place to just relax for an hour or so to escape from all the hustle and bustle.

I would love to spend time browsing there and I’d love a table looking over the dam but now I would be torn…all day breakfast or straight to dessert? In such a place I would have a rare cup of coffee too. I would probably come away with a selection of goodies! What a lovely setting too.

There is also a farm next to Lavender Blue Market with horses … which made me think you’ll love spending time here. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but I can’t resist their coffee – and their wonderful selection of goodies! We like to buy our fruit and veggies there, because in doing so we support the small farm owners in the area. It’s really a great place to visit – any time of the week and any time of the day 😁.

‘n Wonderlike plek Una … en jy’s reg, dis ‘n absolute bonus dat dit so naby aan ons is. Ons maak altyd seker om eers ietsie te eet, anders koop ons daardie deli leeg 😅.

How fortunate to have such a wonderful place so close to home; I’d want to stop in daily! And I’d have to walk rather than drive, to work off the extra calories from their delicious looking food. Lovely post, Corna.

That’s the problem Tricia – I really want to go there every day! Their fresh produce is a huge attraction (I’m not even going to mention their food) and I can’t wait for our next visit. Thanks for your lovely comments as always – hope you’re having a great week.

Everything at Lavender Blue Market is exactly what one needs on a Saturday morning after the chaos of grocery shopping and navigating aisles full of people and shopping carts! This place is my stress reliever 😉.

Nice looking place, looks a great place to pick up some good quality stuff. And breakfast would be a must while there!

It’s a great place to buy fresh produce – and you’re right, it’s good quality at affordable prices (now I sound like a marketing manager 😅). But it happens (sometimes) that we just go for the breakfast and don’t walk out with bags full of stuff … so, that must say something about their all-day breakfasts!

I like this kind of place. We have a lot of farm shops in UK where you can stop for lunch and buy locally produced food/clothes.

It’s great to hear that you also have these shops/markets where you can buy fresh produce/clothes. Here at Lavender Blue Market, the products are of good quality and usually cheaper (than in the shops) … a win-win situation.
