January 2024
We are now almost at the end of our December/January holiday posts in Langebaan. However, there is always one place we visit just before we leave Langebaan that is close to our hearts (probably because we had our honeymoon there in 1996), namely the Greek-inspired Club Mykonos.

With our holiday almost at an end, we were very happy when our good friends invited us and my mom to join them for dinner at the popular Kapstadt Brauhaus restaurant in Club Mykonos.

Kapstadt Brauhaus has both indoor and outdoor seating. As it was a hot summer evening in Langebaan, we were very happy to get a table outside next to the Marina of Club Mykonos.

Ordinary boats and fancy yachts
It was now that time of the year where we could sit back and chat about what our expectations are for the year ahead. While the men each ordered a beer and my mom a glass of wine, Fiela and I could not help but start the evening with a cocktail and wish for a joyful new year.

While we were waiting for our dinner, we couldn’t get enough of the incredibly beautiful sunset.

You can explore the Langebaan lagoon on various day trips and sunset cruises offered by Tropico charters at Club Mykonos. Back in 1996 Berto and I enjoyed a similar sunset cruise on our honeymoon. It was nice to see the fairly new Tropico coming back from a sunset cruise.

Last daylight over the Marina
We could still see the last of the Christmas lights at Club Mykonos, but soon they will also be taken down … until they make their appearance again in 11 months’ time. The lights looked beautiful against the last colours of the setting sun.

With the sun finally over the horizon, we enjoyed our meals. The starters of deep-fried calamari and jalapeños were really good. And when you eat at a restaurant with a German name, you are guaranteed delicious traditional German cuisine.

What a wonderful evening with our long-time friends and my mom. After exchanging a few final stories, it was time to head home. We took one last photo of the beautiful Marina at Club Mykonos and hope to be back here again soon.

How perfectly idyllic and made even more special to have shared it with loved ones and revisit some happy memories. The food and cocktails look absolutely delicious. Lovely post and photos Corna!

Club Mykonos is South Africa’s very own little Greece on the West Coast! It was lovely to spend time there with our friends and my mom – the food is always delicious and one is guaranteed of a spectacular sunset. Thank you Tricia, I’m glad you enjoyed Club Mykonos with us.

Die plek is darem so goed benoem, want mens kan amper nie glo dis in Suid-Afrika nie – so uniek in ons land!

Ons was nog nooit in Griekeland nie, maar my broer-hulle wat al daar was, sê Club Mykonos is baie naby aan die ware Jakob! En ek moet byvoeg, ek was nog nooit teleurgesteld in ‘n sonsondergang hier nie!

What a delightful place to spend an evening with your mum and friends. The dishes you ordered at Kapstadt Brauhaus look delicious and the sunset to the west gorgeous too.

Club Mykonos is a lovely place where one can eat good food while watching the stunning sunset. It’s also a good base from which one can explore the Langebaan area … and with its own private beach, it’s a winner!

Yes, we do have great memories of Club Mykonos – it hasn’t changed much in the 28 years since our honeymoon (maybe more restaurants), but the character of the place is still the same, which we love!

Isn’t it great to have this kind of place – somewhere that, for whatever reason, has occupied a little corner of your heart and you just know it will stay there for ever. Special places with special memories.

You put it so beautifully Phil! That’s exactly how we feel about Club Mykonos. I think we all have a place like that. Isn’t today the beginning of your next adventure? We look forward to travelling together with you guys again!

A lovely evening in a rather unusual setting – I didn’t expect to see a German restaurant in a Greek resort in South Africa!

That’s funny! I never thought of this – a German restaurant in a Greek kind of place. Well, I suppose that’s what make South Africa so unique. There are usually a lot of German kite surfers – maybe the restaurant wanted to make them feel at home. Oh yes, both you and Jude from Cornwall were thinking the exact same thing … 🤣

It looks like a very lovely evening. I always liked the “feel” of a marina (in fair weather of course). The gentle slap of water against the hulls and the sound of gulls. This reminded me of when my parents lived in Barbados. Sometimes we ate out and I was always amused by cheeky birds that came looking for bits. Wonderful sunset. And awfully good-looking cocktails!

Summer evenings at Club Mykonos are the best — with the relaxed vibe, it feels like you’re permanently on holiday! Your memories of Barbados are lovely – you truly explored the world when you were younger! The cocktails were great (but then again, I think any cocktail with such a stunning sunset would be nice).

How wonderfully confusing, a German restaurant in a Greek resort in South Africa! Looks like a perfect location for a honeymoon and a catch up with family and friends. Good food too.

Haha, you are the second one to make this comment. Sarah from Travel with Me also tried to bring the German and Greek influences together 🤣! I have no logical explanation. But that it’s a great place, that’s for sure!

Are there any Greek restaurants there? I love Greek food. German not so much.

A few years back there was a Greek restaurant, Bouzouki in Langebaan, but they have closed. We also like Greek food and have dined often at Nikos Restaurant when we lived in Cape Town (but I heard they also closed towards the end of last year). So it seems there is not a large Greek following in South Africa (unfortunately).

A shame. We used to go to one in Cape Town, had the most delicious tender lamb dishes. Can’t remember the name.

It certainly has that Mediterranean island feel. When we got married in 1996, we had no money to go to the real Greece … therefore we had to settle for a “look alike” Greece 😉.
