As promised in our previous post, we would like to take you to the Langebaan lagoon during sunset.

Langebaan lagoon

We love going for walks along the lagoon. During summer evenings you will usually find many walkers here (even a few swimmers at dusk). But since we were strolling here towards the end of winter and the air was still quite cool, we were part of only a handful of walkers.

There were more seagulls than people on the beach

A lone walker

Because we now live on the south-eastern coast of South Africa, we don’t see the sun set in the sea – although I should mention that we do see spectacular sunrises on that side of the country.

Sunset

A golden moment

There was only a slight breeze whispering in our ears. As we made our way to ‘The Paaltjies’, the patterns in the sand caused by the incoming and outgoing tides were lovely to see.

At ‘The Paaltjies’ we stopped for a few last moments until the sun finally disappeared for the day – behind Schaapen Island and into the sea.

Magical moments

A picture to cherish in our minds

We left the beach and walked back to our car. Winter times are so different from summer here in Langebaan. The streets were quiet and you could only hear a few seagulls and the water meeting the shoreline. It’s actually a wonderful time to be in this coastal town.

Sunset over the town

A last look at the setting sun

When we got into the car, we saw two sheep grazing on the front lawn of a house. The owner was standing in his garden and I asked him if we could take a picture. “Thank you for asking and yes, you are welcome”, he said. We have seen the owner walking his sheep (on a leash) on the beach a few times.

Sheep (not farm animals, but pets)

It was such a lovely evening and we weren’t quite ready to go back home. And you know how it is when you’ve taken a walk, you get hungry. So, we drove to one of our favourite restaurants on the beach, Pearly’s. Berto enjoyed his pizza and I couldn’t resist the bobotie and rice.

Dinner after a stroll on the beach

We have one more of our favourite beaches in Langebaan to show you before we say goodbye to this lovely town. More on that in our next post (read here).
